For mega-wealthy young men of the Gulf Arab states nothing says 'I am rich' more aptly than to Instagram yourself and your lion or cheetah posing alongside your Mercedes or Lamborghini or motoring along in a speedboat.

Showing off the Persian Gulf's latest 'ultimate status symbol', the penchant for posting big cat photos on Instagram betrays the young men's sheer bravado or stupidity, depending on your point of view. Indeed, while the intimacy on display the owners seem to share with their cats is clearly touching, others could possibly think of better ways to flaunt their wealth than sharing feeding time or bathing with fully grown 400pound lions

The President of the Ijaw National Congress (INC), and former Senator of the Federal Republic, Tari Sekibo, has died. Mr Sekibo slumped today in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State and was pronounced dead at the Federal Medical Center where he was rushed to. May his soul rest in peace.

Tears: 50 people die in Russian plane crash today

A passenger plane crashed at an airport in the Russian city of Kazan today, killing all 50 people on board, reports say.

The Boeing 737 had taken off from Moscow and was trying to land but exploded on impact at about 19:20 local time (15:20 GMT), officials said.

The Emergencies Ministry said there were 44 passengers and six crew members on the Tatarstan Airlines flight.

Investigators are now looking at whether a technical failure or crew error may have caused the crash. Among the dead was Irek Minnikhanov, a son of the president of the Russian Republic of Tatarstan, according to the official passenger list.

Aleksander Antonov, who headed Tatarstan's branch of the Federal Security Service, was also among the passengers. The victims also included two children.

Reports said the pilot had already tried to land several times before crashing. The crew had said they were not ready to land because of technical problems, Russian news agencies report.

A journalist who said she had flown on the same aircraft from Kazan to Moscow earlier on Sunday told Russia's Channel TV that there was a strong vibration during the landing in the Russian capital.
"When we were landing it was not clear whether there was a strong wind, although in Moscow the weather was fine, or some kind of technical trouble or problem with the flight," said Lenara Kashafutdinova.
"We were blown in different directions, the plane was tossed around. The man sitting next to me was white as a sheet."

The airport in Kazan - the capital of Tatarstan - has been closed since the accident and is expected to re-open on Monday morning.

Kazan lies about 720km (450 miles) east of Moscow.

Although some of Russia's biggest airlines now have very good reputations, frequent crashes by smaller operators mean the country has one of the worst air safety records in the world.

The joy of Mrs. Ifeoma Odo of Ebo Umuabor in Nsukka Local Government Area, Enugu State, could turn to tears after her husband absconded on hearing that she was in labour for triplets.

Odo told the News Agency of Nigeria in Nsukka on Friday that her husband, Mr. John-Patrick Odo, disappeared when he realised she would give birth to triplets.

“It’s been seven days since I put to bed, yet I have not seen my husband. Several attempts to reach him through his telephone have failed as he switched off his mobile phone.

A teenager has spoken of her 'total shock' at being told at the age of 17 she had no vagina. Jacqui Beck, 19, has MRKH, a rare syndrome which affects the reproductive system - meaning she has no womb, cervix or vaginal opening.  She was only diagnosed after she went to her GP about back pain - and mentioned in passing that she hadn't started her periods.

Tests revealed her condition and that where her vagina should be, there is simply an ident, or 'dimple' - meaning she is unable to have sex or carry her own child.

Two planes collide at Lagos airport

There was a minor accident on Friday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, involving a Turkish Airline aircraft and a Max Air plane. The Turkish Airline plane wings collided with that of Max Air plane which had brought in Pilgrims from Saudi Arabia.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the Turkish Airplane had landed safely but was taxiing to stop at the airport’s apron when its wing collided with that of Max Air.

Robers Attack Kaduna Police Station, Beat Up & Disarm All The Policemen!

A gang of armed robbers out to rob a bank yesterday, attacked Makarfi Divisional Police Station in Kaduna State, and beat up, disarmed all the policemen at the station.

According to one of the policeman who spoke to reporters, but pleaded for anonymity, the robbers numbered between 25 and 30. And would have successfully killed all of them the policemen at the station just if the robbers had so wished.

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 37-year-old man, Ajibola Idowu and his mother, for allegedly kidnapping his landlord's daughter for three years. Within the three years of capitivity, Ajibola forcefully impregnated his victim, Modupe Brown.

The police told PUNCH Metro that after Brown had given birth to the child, Ajibola refused to allow the child access to immunisation. As a result, the child contracted polio disease and subsequently became crippled.

Enugu Sacks School-Principals For Age Falsification

One hundred and thirty-eight Chief Supervising Principals, CSPs, recently appointed by Enugu State Government for various schools in the 17 local government areas of the state have been compulsorily retired for allegedly falsifying their ages.

The list of those retired was released yesterday and pasted on the notice board of state Post Primary School Management Board, PPSMB.

Some of them were said to have spent between five years and above after attaining their official retirement age due to falsification of records.
